Can i use plain water instead of a mac water mist to make the 88 matt platte makeup look more vibrant?

I dont want to spend alot on a water mist from mac..... so i was thinking it only has to be a lil wet so it looks brighter why could i ot use water in a spray bottle let me know what all of you think :)
